School photography for websites, prospectus & marketing
Thank you for visiting – my name is Nina and I am a commercial photographer based in Surrey. I am well-known for my vibrant and colourful photography style and travel throughout the UK offering school and nursery photography for websites, prospectus and marketing.
As an experienced photographer, ex-marketing manager and parent I understand the importance of school marketing and how well a school’s prospectus and website present the school’s values and vision.
We can work together to produce modern prospectus images to showcase your school or nursery. We’ll create imagery that covers the curriculum, and any extra-curricular activities, plus showcase the uniform, buildings and facilities as well as staff leadership photos.
I look forward to working with you

HOW IT WORKS
What happens on the day of the school photoshoot?
To maximise the time on site and reduce time spent going between various locations of your school, we can collaborate to create an image list and a shooting plan in preparation. By doing this, we can produce a varied collection of photographs that showcase your school or nursery in keeping with your vision. On the day, I then;
– Photograph a mixture of naturally posed and documentary-style images that reflects your school’s values
– Photograph as many subjects as possible indoors and outdoors classes. This usually includes Maths, English, Science, Humanities, Arts, Computing and Sports. We can photograph in lesson time, so there is little disruption to learning. I can work with you ahead of the shoot to advise on what type of school activities photograph well.
– I aim to photograph the children working with the teaching staff and when they are engaged in an activity and having fun.

To get the most from your chosen photographer, here are my top tips on what to consider and include in your school photo shoot brief.
1. Remember who the school prospectus is for and communicate this with your photographer
Giving the photographer an insight into how and when their imagery will be used helps them capture your vision. A prospectus is most often to inspire and inform the reader, so positive imagery which brings to life the curriculum has a real impact.
2. Use an experienced school photographer
A school photography session is very fast-paced, having to fit around teaching and ideally, the photographer should cause as little disruption as possible. Having an experienced school photographer puts you at an advantage as they have experience dealing with these environments and know how to get the best images on the day. Ask your proposed photographer for any tips and ideas for bringing lessons to life, as they may have created images in the past that could work well for your school prospectus.
3. Agree on the school photoshoot logistics
Outline the proposed date and times of the shoot, locations (if they are working across multiple schools or campuses), contact details of who will be looking after them on the day and when you would like the images returned. One challenge is managing children that cannot be featured in any imagery as parental permission has not been given. In schools I have worked with we created a white dot system where any child with this sticker on could not be included in the photography.
4. Provide your photographer with your school’s vision and values
Once the logistics of the shoot have been agreed, you can begin to work on objectives for the day. The more information you give your photographer the better so examples of imagery that you have worked well in the past, an overview of the school’s values and vision and also any USPs that your school has that should feature. If you have a working set of brand guidelines this would also be very useful.
5. Plan a photoshoot schedule and create a shot list
Plan a schedule to make sure that every important component of the school is covered during the day. Because some activities, like science experiments and PE, require time to set up, it’s likely the photographer will only have a little window of opportunity to take these photos. Between each section, other places, such as classroom and uniform photos, can be photographed.
It’s very helpful to create a timetable that can be shared with the photographer and also all of the teaching staff.
Science Lesson Photography Ideas
Science is one of the most exciting curriculum activities for photographing to include in your school prospectus and website. Ideas for images include experiments with reactions such as coloured flames, students using Bunsen burners, and students in their safety clothing and goggles. One of my most recent favourite images was using a Van de Graaff generator machine that uses static electricity to make hair stand up!
