Photographing the everyday – personal project with my kids 🙂 One of my goals for 2014 is to document as many everyday events with my children as possible -it’s part of the reason I started photography in the first place. This weekend we finally saw a bit of decent weather, so the kids and I (husband had boring paperwork to do) took a bike ride to our local park. The first trick was working out how to carry my camera and in the end I ended up slinging it over my shoulder and getting my daughter to hold onto it as she is in a seat on the back of my bike. We arrived in one piece and my daughter was excited to see one of her best friends from school at the park too. As you can see there is only 1 shot of my son he was off playing football with another boy and I didn’t see him for about an hour and a half 🙂

I was really pleased to have won another 2 Silver Bars with the Guild of Photographers (www.photoguild.co.uk)Â this month. Both of these images were taken on my outdoor Christmas mini sessions at one of my favourite locations in Hemel Hempstead.
One of the best parts of being a photographer is you get to meet families and see them grow up. I met Laura when I very first started my business, and I photographed her youngest daughter who had just been born. She had this brilliant mop of hair which stood up like a mini Mohican 🙂 Well I have been lucky enough to photograph this family 3 times now and I love it when I get the email to say that they want to book their “annual photo session with me”.
Last month I ran a day of outdoor sessions in Hemel Hempstead and Elizabeth contacted me for a session for her, and her extended, family. The family included her sons and daughters and it was also an opportunity to get photos of the 5 grand children.
It had been threatening to rain all week but we were really lucky and at the last moment it cleared up. As I work a lot outdoors, I try to make sure that even if we have light rain on the day of the shoot, we have options. At this location we had a barn area and a forest which is so well covered we wouldn’t get wet.
The grandchildren were 4 boys and a girl, and the boys were at that age where having their photos taken is so “not cool”. We took a relaxed walk through the woods so they could get to know me a bit and then we stopped to take some photos. Once the boys got into the swing of things they were great and we got some lovely natural portraits of them just laughing and smiling. You can also see an example of a frame design I supplied for the family
Wanessa got in touch as she had seen some photos of newborn photography I had taken for a friend of hers and she booked months ago for the arrival of her new baby. She had a little boy and already has a lovely young daughter and we had a fun session trying to get them in a photo together. To say that big sister is not so keen on her baby brother is an understatement and it took a few attempts for her to go near him 🙂 Some of the photos from the session are shown below…
