School Prospectus Photography: The Complete Guide for Heads, Marketing Leads & Admin Teams
First impressions matter. Your school prospectus could be the first time a parent or carer connects with your ethos, energy and environment. Photography is a powerful part of that first impression — it doesn’t just show what your school looks like, it shows what it feels like.
In this guide, I’ll walk you through everything you need to know to plan a successful school prospectus shoot — from planning and permissions, to what makes a great image, and how I help schools across the UK bring their story to life through photography.

Why School Prospectus Photos Matter
Your school prospectus isn’t just a brochure — it’s a tool for connection. Parents want to feel a sense of warmth, belonging, and trust before they’ve even stepped through the school gates. Real, vibrant, natural photography helps you tell that story.
Not only will you use these images in your printed materials, but across your website, newsletters, social media and internal communications.
How the Day Works: Planning & Process
Before the shoot, I work closely with your team to create a realistic, flexible plan — using my editable planning document, which you can download and tailor to your day.
Having worked with over 50 schools, I understand that timetables change. Whether Year 6 are off on a trip or the science lab is suddenly needed for a pop-up exam, I’ll adapt on the day.
We’ll build a shot list that reflects your curriculum, values and unique selling points — while ensuring we don’t disrupt learning.
What Makes Great School Prospectus Images
The best school photos aren’t staged. They’re moments of real interaction — curiosity in the science lab, pride in a piece of art, teamwork on the pitch. With 15 years of experience as a family photographer, I know how to get the best out of children of all ages quickly and naturally.
We’ll aim to capture a balance of:
– Curriculum coverage (English, Maths, Science etc.)
– Enrichment and clubs (Drama, Sport, Music)
– Staff interaction and engagement
– SEN provision and inclusive activities
– Outdoor play and wider environment
Permissions & Safeguarding
As a fully DBS-checked professional, I take safeguarding seriously. We’ll work together to ensure any children without photo permissions are easily identifiable — I recommend a discreet sticker approach. All staff involved will be briefed beforehand, and I’ll liaise with your safeguarding lead to ensure compliance throughout the day.

Every school is different — so I offer both half-day and full-day rates, with the flexibility to tailor a package to your needs.
As a guide:
