Family photo session in Leverstock Green, Hemel Hempstead

Last weekend I had the pleasure of photographing Helen and her family in Leverstock Green, Hemel Hempstead. Before the session we chatted a lot about the type of images she would like, what to wear and who would be involved. I was looking forward to it but Helen herself said that she was a little worried. A year ago she lost her baby daughter because of a Congenital Heart Defect.

These are Helens words, published on her Team Macy Facebook Page following our shoot – I think her words are better than mine could ever be.  “Today we had a family photography session.  Like most things in my life nowadays it worried me.  Knowing that if things had turned out differently we would have 3 children in our photos.  And I worried that the gaping hole left by our youngest would just be too obvious to bare.  Local photographer Nina Mace took our photos.  Nina made us all feel comfortable and the pictures are amazing.  I just wish I could have asked her to photograph Macy.  Thank you Nina.  Sometimes a photograph is a passage into the past.  A way of freezing life for a second to re-live every time you look at it again x ”

Helen and her family are a huge inspiration to me, and because of them I have been made aware of CHD which is one of the worlds biggest childhood killers. Helen and her family are  passionate about raising awareness of this illness and to raise money for the Royal Brompton Hospital who looked after their daughter Macy so incredibly well. If you would like to keep in touch with the work they are doing please visit her facebook page here .

I am so pleased they loved the photos and some of my favourites images are shown below.
