As most of you know I love to photograph children and families but I have also always wanted to try dance photography. I loved to dance when I was younger and I was really pleased when Ruby and her family got in touch to discuss an outdoor dance shoot. Ruby works incredibly hard to craft her talent and was Runner-up Miss Starpower, Teen Miss Ultimate Dance and loves Simply Stella Dance Wear.

We shot outdoors at a local park and were blessed with an incredible evening light and a tiny bit of fog which made for some incredible colours straight out of the camera.

One of the biggest challenges was capturing the movement so I kept my shutter speed at 1/1000 of a second. I shot all of these images on my 70-200 at the lowest aperture of 2.8.

I enjoyed this shoot so much I am launching a collaborative dance shoot workshop in September. It will be a small group of photographers with 2-3 elite dancers. We will work together to come up with the shoot concept and shoot it as a team. It will be all about fun, collaboration and doing something a little different!
