In 2013 I joined the Guild of Professional Photographers Organisation. The Guild offers mentoring and training, competitions and a network of very friendly and helpful fellow hobbyist and professional photographers. In 2014 I was incredibly proud to have won a place in the Guilds Top 10 People photographers of the year along with a few of my close photographer friends which made the evening even more special. This year was even more exciting as I was announced as the Children’s, Lifestyle & Family Photographer of Year.  I am a big fan of this organisation and I’m often asked how I have benefited from joining. There are 3 main areas of the Guild which I actively use including Qualification, Training and the monthly Competition.

Qualification

In 2013 I became a Qualified member of the Guild of Professional photographers. ‘Qualified’ indicates professional ‘competence’  to a level where the Guild is willing to recognise the photographer as an ambassador of the association. This ensures my clients have confidence when booking me, and it means to be that my work has been approved by a team of incredibly experienced professionals.  In 2015 my personal goal is to apply for Craftsman which requires demonstration of the finest technical skills and an exceptional creative and artistic ‘eye’.

Training

The Guild offer training both in the UK and abroad and I have spent time with a number of the Guilds judges and panel members including Simon YoungNeil Bowler and Andrew Appleton.  I have spent time further developing my storytelling, editing, lighting and posing. I was also lucky enough to spend 3 days in Paris with Andrew and you can see what I got up to here Part 1 Part 2 Part 3. An example of my before and after editing is shown below

Competitions

Every month I enter the Guild of Professional Photographers image of the Month Competition. Images are awarded a bar, Bronze, rare Silver, or incredibly rare Gold. Competitions may not be for every photographer but I have found it a huge stepping stone to learning and training my eye even further. It has also driven me to focus more on editing to a very high standard. To see some of the images that I have won awards for, click at the end of this page.
